New PoP regulation 2018

In order to make the Pace of Play rules and the timings procedures more easily understandable, the Nordic Golf League Committee has decided to implement the system that was tested during the 2015 ECCO Tour Winter Series at PGA Catalunya. We have eliminated the previous procedures with 40 and 50 seconds + 3 seconds + 10% etc. We have also eliminated the “In/Out of Position” rule meaning that players can and will be timed at any occasion, even if they are within their allotted time and not out of position.

During all Nordic Golf League tournaments in the Main Season of 2018,  all strokes and putts must be performed within 60 seconds – including all preparations such as putting on gloves, measuring, teeing up balls, choice of clubs, assessment of wind etc. This also applies when tournaments on special occasions are played with preferred lies.

Whether you choose to spend 40 seconds on preparations and 20 seconds to perform your shot or putt, or vice versa, is your own choice, as long as you are ready to hit when it is your turn and perform your stroke within 60 seconds.

There are NO EXCUSES or MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES, except if you have a rule situation or are waiting for a rules official, waiting for the group in front or waiting for players on holes close by.

If you, for whatever reason, exceeds the above limit, you will get a “bad time” and a fine of 20 €. No warning will be given for the first bad time.

TIMING PROCEDURES:

The timing of a player will start when the player has reached his ball, it is his turn to play and he is able to play without interference. The player is allowed 60 seconds to make his stroke or putt. This applies at all times even if a player would like to i.e. help a fellow competitor searching for a lost ball. When it is your turn to play, you MUST without hesitation and within 60 seconds make your stroke.

  • If a player receives three bad times or more during a round the DQ will be sentenced after play and after the players possible disagreement has been evaluated.
  • There are no mitigating circumstances for exceeding 60 seconds to play a shot, except if the player has a rule situation or is waiting for a Rules Official, waiting for the group in front or waiting for players on holes close by.
  • In some circumstances, an individual player, or two players within a group of three, may be timed instead of the entire group.

THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE THE PACE OF PLAY

  • Be aware of your position with regard to the group in front of you
  • If you feel your group is falling behind, advise your fellow competitors and catch up as soon as possible
  • If informed that the group ahead is on the clock, increase your pace of play immediately
  • Do not concern yourself with the group behind – that is the officials’ responsibility
  • Play a provisional ball whenever there is doubt as to where the ball is lying “through the green”
  • Check your routines and prepare yourself before it becomes your turn to play
  • When calculating your yardage, count steps from yardage spots on the way to your ball rather than first approaching your ball and then counting steps towards yardage spots in front of the ball
  • Do not wait until it is your turn to play before putting your glove on, calculating yardage etc.
  • Look at your own line of putt while your fellow-competitors look at theirs (within the bounds of normal etiquette)
  • Don´t help another fellow competitor to search for lost balls if it is your turn to play. Hit your shot and then help. Keep in mind that most balls are found within the first 2-3 minutes and a lot of time therefore is wasted with unnecessary walking time.
  • Do NOT wait with the search of your own ball until you can get help from fellow competitors. It will be regarded as undue delay under Rule 6-7.
